READ THIS before you decide which surgeon to use for your hip replacement.
Not sure how to begin this review. Let's begin with a simple hip replacement performed by Carl Freeman that has turned into a total nightmare and has taken away my enjoyment of life. So do your homework and read my story before you decide to put your life into his hands:After several visits complaining of ongoing pain after my surgery, I developed a large red patch on my upper thigh, which Dr Freeman diagnosed as a hematoma.
He attempted to drain, but very little fluid came out. A few months later (and another appointment), Dr Freeman suggested that I have more physical therapy, which ended up increasing the pain level enough that the therapist ended our sessions. Ony at that point did Dr Freeman thought to order blood tests, which resulted in a majot infection, leading to a 2nd surgery to REMOVE the hip, replace it with a spacer, and let me deal with an infectious disease doctor, who inserted a piccline on my arm so I could administer 8 weeks of antibiotics. Once the infection was gone, I had surgery #3 to re-insert another hip. After my 4 week healing process, I suffered 2 total dislocations, which required emergency room attention. Dr Freeman then told me he would need to insert a constrained liner, so this makes surgery #4. During surgery #4, while drilling out the cement that held the post in tact, Dr Freeman said that the drill has slipped and it cut through my femur bone, leaving him no choice but to wrap wire in 3 areas around the post and bone to hold it together. The end result of that surgery was multiple "infectious holes" where the staples gave way. It was a miserable and totally disgusting site to behold. (I have the deep scars to show for those). I returned to his office for one of the post-operative appointments, at which time decided to never return. Dr. Freeman seemed to be unfazed by what I had gone through. Although he seemed to act sympathetic, neither he nor his team followed up with me to ask why I cancelled future post-surgery appointments. I guess in the end, they didn't really care one way or the other about what he had done to me.
I was luckily able to (after 90 days) seek another surgeon, who agreed to monitor the hip and damage that had been a result of Dr. Freeman's handling. Much to my dismay, after my 3rd visit, x-rays showed that the neck of the joint, just below the ball had broken. My new and WONDERFUL surgeon to performed surgery #5 to replace with another hip and to do his best to repair the damage caused by Dr Freeman's handi-work. My new surgeon ended up replacing the entire hip. He and his team were appalled by the amount of damage and trauma caused by the previous surgeries. He did an excellent job with what he had to work with.
So........if you are looking for a reference or a referral regarding Dr. Carl Freeman, you won't get one from me. I would highly recommend you find another surgeon. If I had only known, I'd have done the same.
Oh, and did I mention that my right leg is almost an inch shorter than my left leg, leaving me unable to walk without a cane? Talk about adding insult to injury!
